Japanese
Wagamama
Location
My Japanese friends tell me that Wagamama means 'selfish' - so I wonder why they named it that.
Then I took my Japanese friend there for an investigation, and she assured me the setting wasn't in the least bit Japanese - more like a school canteen with benches. We arrived quite early but from 7pm onwards it was rush hour - queues outside the door, every seat in the place taken. Flustered waiters meaning we had to ask 3 times for another drink even though our request had definitely been acknowledged.
So we both had a curry type dish - also - I was again assured, and this time I could tell, wasn't the least bit Japanese. At this point you might be wondering if this restaurant is advertising itself as Japanese under false pretences - but when we looked at what some of the people had ordered my friend assured me those dishes looked more Japanese.
If you do order the curry type dish, make sure you order several drinks to go with it - it is extremely salty. But I must try the food here again - especially the coconut ice cream on the dessert menu, maybe not so Japanese either - so I might go for a very Japanese main course - if I can find one.
Give it a go - but expect it to be busy!!
